Hawai’i Wildlife You Might Spot at E Komo Mai Sport Horses
Some of the unique endemic, indigenous, and migratory, wildlife (many are endangered species) you might
spot or hear at the ranch include ‘io (Hawaiian hawk), pueo (Hawaiian goose), koloa maoli (Hawaiian duck),
‘ewe’ewa (sooty tern), ‘auku’u (black-crowned night heron), kolea (Pacific golden plover), ‘iwa (great frigatebird),
and in the distance at the ocean kohola (humpback whale).
You may also see such introduced species as barn owls, black francolin, chukar, gray francolin, Erckel's
francolin, California quail, wild turkey, common peafowl,
ring-necked pheasant, chestnut-bellied sandgrouse,
Eurasian skylark, hwamei, Kalij pheasant, cattle egret,
mejiro, spotted dove, rock dove, zebra dove, mourning
dove, common mynah, rose-ringed parakeet, northern
mockingbird, northern cardinal, yellow-billed cardinal,
house sparrow, house finch, saffron finch, yellow-fronted
canary, java sparrow, nutmeg mannikin, red-billed koa'e
kealeiothrix, mongoose, and European wild boar/Polynesian pig.
On some other parts of the island you might also spot the small forest birds 'apapane, i'iwi, 'akiapola'au, koa'e
kea (white-tailed tropic bird), koa'e 'ula (red-tailed tropic bird), 'ilio-holo-i-kauaua (Hawaiian monk seal), honu
(green sea turtle and Hawaiian hawksbill turtle), spinner dolphin, Kona nightingale (a donkey), and goats.
